Do you know what I have? I mean, do you know what Aodhan has? A kitten! A freshly baked and fluffy little ball of kitten. Lots of stuff happened to bring her into our life: my cat died, my other two cats want zero to do with Aodhan, I desperately wanted him to have a pet and a yard sale. Seriously, while intending to peruse a yard sale, I ended up with a kitten. She is a gem. A gem named Virginia. As in Virginia Woolf. She joins Eliot (like, T.S) and Sylvia (like, Plath) who are way more than a little pissed off about this whole enterprise.
But, since Aodhan got a kitten, I thought I would give you guys a kitten too. Seriously. I am doing a kitten giveaway. Canada Post is pretty hardcore about no live animals making their way through traditional forms of post though, so instead I am sending someone the next best thing!
A crocheted kitten from The Handy Hooker.
Aodhan received a parcel some months back and tucked inside were his two crocheted kittens and they are just the cutest and most perfect thing for him until the stars aligned and he was able to get his own heart-beating kind of kitty.
Stuffed animals are a-dime-a-dozen. But, there is something truly special about a handmade stuffie. Made with the softest yarn, these two lovelies each have their own expression and are perfect for pint-sized play. They fit easily in pockets, doll houses and back packs making them perfect toys for playdates or sleepover trips to grandparents.
I am also loving the versatility of them. Thinking as an educator, these would be great in a waldorf or montessori classroom or homeschool environment. I can also imagine using these in a home where kiddos are getting their first pet and parents want to spend some time chatting about pet care.
I really can’t imagine a sweeter holiday gift than one of these lovely little kittens.
These kittens are lovingly made by a spectacular woman who lives in Ennis, Ireland. Not only is she a brilliant crochet artist, she is also a jewellery designer who takes her inspiration from the ground she walks on and the natural world around her. Alia’s crocheted creations have been featured in children’s photography and sold around the world. You need to zip over to her Etsy shop or Facebook page and see what she has been able to make with repurposed materials – honestly, you won’t want to do your holiday shopping anywhere else. Her rag rugs are brilliant and screaming to be walked on, and I happen to know that her facecloths are lovely and perfect for your skin – no mass produced facecloth for me after using The Handy Hookers’.
Don’t waste a moment – get yourself a kitten to give to the youngest ones on your holiday list, or even for yourself (because who doesn’t want one of these kittens). The giveaway will run until November 15th and then I will draw a winner! I will also be linking this giveaway up to The Natural Parents Network Handmade Holidays.
