Fishing for Numbers

Having a background in literature and literacy always leaves me feeling a little worried that I am going to accidentally short change Aodhan in the area of numeracy. So, I have been stretching myself to ‘play’ with numbers as much as we play with language.

Something that was a super fun hit (and that I will certainly repeat), is ‘fishing’ for numbers. It was dead easy to set up and he truly enjoyed playing this little matching game.

I re-purposed our ‘catching-a-star‘ rod and tossed a bunch of our magnetic numbers into a tub of coloured water. Aodhan would catch a number and match it up with it’s written representation. He was super fast with this, but happy to do it again and again.

When we repeated with letters I was a bit smarter and used a page protector to protect against the inevitable wet splashes.

I feel terrible, but I can’t for the life of me, recall where these number printables are from – any ideas?
