Please continue reading to learn more about Wise Daughters Craft Market, which is offering our readers a giveaway of a Woodlot set of wooden Canadian play money, a value of $20.

Wise Daughters Craft Market can be found in the heart of Toronto’s Junction neigbourhood, sharing a corner with the well-loved Crema Coffee house and YogaSeed Studio. Owned and expertly run  by Mary Breen, Wise Daughters is many things to many people. The store space has two levels, offering two very different craft experiences. One level is a retail space for showcasing and selling over 75 artists/designers from Toronto. The lower level is an open and airy artelier where Mary arranges various teachers to share an array of eclectic and interesting craft-related workshops to people of all ages, abilities and avenues.

Having left behind a 25 year career in the non-profit world, Mary brings a passion for being a conduit between crafters and their audiences. The shop is loaded with an interesting selection of housewares, clothing (including Mary’s own line of Wise Daughters Wear), paper goods and jewellery. There is a focus on the repurposed goods, like the sweaters-turned-owls that are perched in a characterful suitcase at the top of the shop stairs. There isn’t a holiday that goes by where I don’t find myself in Mary’s shop trying to decide between the lovely silkscreen TTC shirts and the needle felting kits. Mary knows each crafter well enough to speak knowledgeably and confidently about each item she sells in her shop.

One product, that we adore is The Woodlot’s collection of Canadian wooden coins and bills. This company has a passion for taking reclaimed lumber and fallen trees and turning them into a variety of different items, including toys, blocks and ipad docks. This play money came in two separate drawstring burlap bags, stamped with their inventory of either coins or bills. The coins and bills are stamped on both sides and finished with a natural oil. They are the perfect size for my 3 year old son’s hand, and they are so much more durable than the paper bills our cash register came with. I also enjoy the aesthetic of reclaimed wood in Aodhan’s playroom. I am a sucker for reclaimed trees and reusing most any material especially - in toys. This money offers children an invitation to play in a variety of ways: imaginary play, stacking, trading, counting, and number recognition. This play money would be a perfect gift for any child – toddler to age 8.
