The owner and designer of Terramor comes from a pedigree of crafters. Her grandmother was a notorious knitter, and her mother’s sister could landscape the shape of Big Ben out of a couple of hostas. Alia is no exception and most certainly continues a tradition of crafty women. Terramor is a culmination of skill, talent and keen study. Self-taught, Alia has become an expert in shaping and designing jewellery that manages to capture both simplicity and sophistication. Terramor has set up shop on the west coast of Ireland, and draws its inspiration from the natural world and the raw materials of metal, stone and gem. Alia’s mission is to offer her customers jewellery that is of the earth, by using recycled and reclaimed materials whenever possible. It is refreshing to see the combination of someone living what they love, while simultaneously considering their impact on the earth.
Having always had a hint of the nerd about me, I have never been one to adorn myself in jewels. I have about 3 rings, 1 watch, a handful of necklaces and zero pairs of earrings. But the earrings created by Terramor don’t make my head feel heavy, nor do I worry that a certain 3 year old might get himself tangled in bits of this or that. I love the weight of the light sterling silver gauge. The modest 1 inch drop from the loop doesn’t make me feel over the top when wearing these with my usual attire of jeans, a t-shirt and my superhero cape (I mean cardigan). At the same time, I can easily throw these on with a black dress and heels if anyone was inclined to invite me somewhere that would require such gear. The turquoise is divine and is complimented by the tea coloured gems that sit below.
I have to say that I was half expecting my ears to react to these earrings, as my skin rejects just about anything I put against it. But, Alia’s sterling silver ear hooks have stood the test and proven themselves to be free of any residual mix of material that might have otherwise left my ears a little sore. These earrings stand out as jewellery that I will have around and wear in the years to come. They would easily make a lovely holiday gift for a sister, a mother, a wife or a good friend. This pair stands as but one example of the amazing creations Alia crafts and then ships all the way from Ireland. I can’t imagine that after even a five minute peek around her Etsy store that everyone couldn’t find what they needed for the holiday gift list.
