Holiday Gift Goodness: Felt Shape Matching Game

My niece will be 18 months this holiday season and I am gifting her with a cute little Felt Shape Matching Game. This was really simple to make and could be tailored to both your kid’s interest/ability and your sewing level.

Materials
-2 sheets of vegan felt in solid colour
-1 sheet of vegan felt in contrasting colour
-embroidery thread
-needle
-stamps and twill tape (optional)
-sewing machine (optional)

How to
I started by cutting the felt into 16 rectangles about 8 cms wide and 4 cms high. I used the contrasting felt  to cut out 2 sets of each shape. I made 4 shapes, though you could do any number you wish, and why stick to shapes?

I stitched the shapes onto the rectangles using a blanket stitch.

I employed Aodhan to help me stamp the name of the shapes onto some twill tape, making one ’twill’ for each shape, allowing for a little montessori self-check when she is a little older. I used my sewing machine to attach the twill to a blank rectangle.

Finally, I matched the shapes up to the twill taped rectangles and the other four blank ones, and used my machine to sew them up. Easy and fun. Of course Aodhan had to give them a go. Thumbs up.
