I can’t get enough of water beads. They are creepy, fun and full of possibilities. This morning while snuggling up to a still sleeping Aodhan, I happened upon this post by MamaSmiles and I immediately hopped out of bed (ok, more like crept like a stealthy thief to ensure my sleeping creature did not stir), and grabbed one of the massive ziplock bags my mama is always sure to send us home with (usually filled with amazing treats like vegan pumpkin bread), some paint, shampoo, some glitter and my trusty duct tape.

I got to work constructing a No Mess Finger Paint station on Aodhan’s art table when my eyes spotted our tub of Water Beads and a light went on – I just had to add Water Beads to our painting fun. I started a whole new bag, adding green paint, more glitter, a little bit of shampoo and a titch of water.

By now my little love nugget had joined me in my mad preparations and was so lovely to wait and let me get him set up. But, once we were ready to rock (with the two bags side, by side on the table, he went to town). He had so much fun trying to squish the water beads!

Some of the things he painted/pretended:

  • an ocean scene
  • ocean creatures
  • letters
  • numbers
  • shapes
  • hand prints
  • moving the paint/goop around the bag
  • running different items over the bag to see the effect it had on the paint

I took the advice from the original post and made sure I had some white paper behind the bags to help the “paintings” stand out.

This activity was ahhhhmazing and I am leaving the paint-only bag on the table for a while to see what else happens. I am a big lover of mess, mess and more mess – but I really appreciated the chance to be creative without thinking about how I was going to hose the kitchen, my kid and myself down before we could get out the door.

Please don’t forget to enter our giveaway – I am really excited to give some gifts to my readers!
