Following on the heels of our Earth Day Foot Art, we thought we would take a similar approach in our attempts to beckon spring from whatever rock she has crawled under. Seriously, the weather in Ontario has been abysmal. Snow, rain, wind, below five degrees. Horrible, horrible weather.

But, what better way to call on the May flowers that are awaiting us than with a rainbow!?

This was an incredibly simple activity/art, but it actually turned out to be a stunning work of art, and with all the help that Aodhan needed to balance while trying to place his little feet on the rainbow, it was also a great way to cuddle and snuggle.

To create our lovely rainbow, we used a giant piece of paper, washable paint in all the colours of the rainbow and Aodhan’s adorable feet! I poured a gloop of each colour on a plate and Aodhan wiggled his feet all around and then just plopped his feet around the arches for each colour. I washed his tiny tootsies between each colour.

It was so much fun to create this rainbow art on a gloomy grey day. It was so nice to see these colours bloom in our little white kitchen as the rain beat down on our windows. While we stomped, we listened to this song about the colour spectrum by They Might be Giants. (have you heard their amazing science cd? Aodhan loves it!) They Might Be Giants – Roy G Biv from They Might Be Giants on Vimeo.

I have plans to frame this and hang it in our spare room – I think the light will catch it beautifully.

And, because everyone needs a few more rainbows in these last few days of umbrellas and rubber boots, here is a great list of bloggers who you should visit because they have their own rainbow love to share. And of course, you should link up your own rainbow love! Also, be sure to check out this lovely Kids’ Rainbow Art, Eats, and Activities Pinterest board created by The Outlaw Mom.
